同機は現地時間10:53に32滑走路を離陸し、右旋回で上昇を開始した。高度2,900フィートで機体は降下をはじめ、1，800フィートまで下がったあと再び上昇を開始し、3,000フィートまで昇ったが、急降下を開始し、パーシープリースト湖の水面に激突した。事故当時の天候は1,300フィートまで雲があった。
